Are you an experienced Purchasing Manager with strong negotiation skills? Do you have ‘finished products’ buying expertise ideally gained within the construction building industry, machinery / power and hand tools, or garden equipment sector etc?
Reporting into one of the Directors you will be responsible for managing a small purchasing team in sourcing new products and negotiating terms with new and existing suppliers and placing orders. With a real focus on driving costs down and sourcing fresh new ranges, you will thrive in forming new commercial agreements and keeping ahead of market needs.
With an established and experienced team, this position will pick up the reins from the previous Purchasing Manager as they move onto retirement.
As Purchasing Manager your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing contract terms and developing an inventory management strategy with a view to improving stock accuracies
- Accountability for cost, quality, reliability, and delivery of products sourced.
- Negotiating and influencing suppliers to achieve best market value
- Identifying areas for improvement to current processes and procedures
- Developing and owning appropriate departmental KPIs to ensure performance and improvement is measured and acted on
- Developing new systems and working practices
- Demonstrating strategic cost saving, improving on time delivery, lead time reduction and effective inventory control
- Controlling purchase of products, capital, and non-capital lines as per replenishment requirements or sales forecasts and expediting
- Optimising stock turnover by ensuring adequate/frequent ordering and liaising with suppliers to provide product sales forecasts
- Monitoring product failure rates and negotiate resolution with suppliers
- Liaising with suppliers to obtain contributions to marketing as required
- Produce ad hoc reports as required by the Director.
Key skills:
- Experience in hard or electrical goods for retail sale would be ideal
- CIPs qualified would be advantageous
- Demonstrated experience within Purchasing Management – 3+ years
- Ability to negotiate and review strategic contracts
- Proven experience coaching and developing a team
- Ability to communicate at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders.
NB: Occasional travel and overnight stays will be required.
